OUTDOOR RECREATION PROGRAM

For Young Adults & Families with Young Children

Welcome to Bikes & Chai-kes!

Our next B&C event, A Family Hike & 10 Commandment Scavenger Hunt led by Rabbi Fred “Moses” Benjamin (who will appear in costume) is on May 31st, from 1:30 – 3:00pm.  The inspiration for this hike comes from the holiday of Shavuot which is celebrated this year on May 29 and 30.  Shavuot is the holiday where we celebrate the receiving of the 10 Commandments.  For more information see Shavuot Information.

We will meet at the Blue Hills Reservation Headquarters, 695 Hillside St. in Milton.  Look for the Temple Shalom Sign.  We will then drive a short distance to park our cars near TRAIL 2160 which is on Chickatawbut Road (just West of Forest St.  See Blue Hills Map . The hike itself will start at 1:50PM.

Trail 2160 is an easy walk up to Buck Hill (Trail marker 2165) and reaching the top should take around 30 minutes at a comfortable pace.  Young children can walk it.  At spots the trail is rocky and therefore not “stroller friendly”.  The 360 degree view from the top is glorious!

Scavenger Hunt - Along the way 10 clues will be hidden, one for each of the 10 Commandments.  The activity is structured such that each child “wins”.
