When America Wasn't So Welcoming

Saturday Dec. 6th, 7:00PMHollywoodism: Jews, Movies & The American Dream
Synopsis: "This film discusses the effect on how major American films in Hollywood were influenced by the Eastern European Jewish culture that most of the major movie moguls who ran the studios shared.  Through clips of various films, the filmmakers illustrate…themes like that of the outsider, the outspoken American patriotism, and rooting for the underdog in society." written by Kenneth Chisholm

Saturday  Jan. 24th  7:00PMThe Front
Synopsis: "Woody Allen plays a man of no real talent or strong political convictions who is paid to be a front for a group of black listed writers during the McCarthy period in the United States (early 1950s). There are comedic elements in his attempts to pass off stories he hasn't read as his own, until he comes under the view of the UnAmerican Activities Subcommittee."  written by John Vogel

Saturday Feb. 28th 7:00PMOf Stars and Shamrocks: Boston's Jews and Irish
Co-Sponsored with St. Agatha’s Church.  Film showing will be followed by an open discussion on the history and interaction between Milton’s Irish and Jewish communities.
Synopsis: "Both Irish and Jewish immigrants settled in Protestant Brahmin Boston in the late-19th century, and both encountered bigotry, exploitation, exclusion and discrimination.
