Temple Shalom of Milton was founded in 1944 as Jewish Bostonians expanded beyond their existing population centers in Mattapan and Roxbury (read Hillel Levine's book to learn about the history of Jews in Boston). As the Jewish population of greater Boston has continued to shift over time, Temple Shalom has today become the focus of Jewish community for not just Milton, but a new generation of Jews living in Dorchester, Hyde Park, and Roslindale. Our members also come from other nearby communities such as Quincy and Canton.
